'You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth' Khalil Gibran.
The back-to-school germs have well and truly hit our house this week. It started with Daddy being sent home from work and having 4 days off (when he's never had a sick day in over ten years!). We isolated Daddy in the bedroom for the first few days until he had a negative PCR test result then he was allowed out but by this time Iris had been struck down with the lurgy.
We don't routinely test Iris as it's so traumatic for youngsters but we do ourselves twice weekly and prior to going any events so she's seen them and knows what they are used for but trying to get a swab from an ill four year old was utterly heart breaking. She was feverish, tired and so bunged up she could barely breathe so we gave it a fun title of the 'bogey poke' and made up an accompanying dance move but it was still so upsetting for us all. She was brave though and as expected all our lateral flow tests came back negative.
So with Daddy's negative PCR and several negative lateral flows we thought we were in the clear. Iris returned to pre-school yesterday and lasted an hour before we got 'the call'- her key worker had tested positive! So although Iris is much better we're home bound waiting on the results of our family PCR test. Neither of them had any of the typical symptoms that would require us to test last week but we did out of concern for spreading to others.
It's all a bit confusing as currently none of us have symptoms. Iris and Daddy were ill last week but we all tested negative but now we know we've been in close contact with someone with Covid we're concerned the tests were inaccurate. Daddy still has to go to work even though we're awaiting results as no one is showing symptoms and his test last week was negative. I don't know whether we need to isolate or not but me and Iris will be staying home until the results come in. It's all a bit of a mess and I don't cope well with ambiguity. I just hope the results come back soon and that Iris's key worker is okay.
Thanks For Reading
Troy and I have it at the moment. I did a PCR when I'd only ever had negative lateral flows - even one the morning we did the PCR in the afternoon - and it came back positive. It's made me lose faith in lateral flow tests tbh! We only did a PCR as we were a close contact of a positive case but I'm glad we did, otherwise we'd never have known! I hope she's on the mend x
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many stories of people continuing to have negative lateral flow tests even when they've had a positive PCR- it is very unsettling. I hope you're both feeling okay x
DeleteWe ave been going through all of this the past week with tests, isolations and illness. I hope you're all ok? It is very draining and makes me nervous for the Winter ahead x
ReplyDeleteDaddy and Iris are much better, it's me with a throat and ear infection now. Thankfully we've avoided Covid so far but it is a very stressful time, constantly worrying if it's Covid any time one of us is even remotely under the weather. I hope your tribe are okay x
DeleteWe are the same with the boys but with cases on the rise here too I have started testing them. Especially Charlie as he has two kids in his class that have tested positive. Least the new lateral flow tests are shorter and easier to use. I hope you all come back negative and its nothing to worry about x
ReplyDeleteWe all came back negative thankfully, I think it's just been a case of the back to school germs. There's so much going around, preschool has confirmed chicken pox now. It's going to be along Winter! x
