'You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth' Khalil Gibran.
Now the lockdown has been lifted a little we've found ourselves getting out and about a bit more. In the early days of the quarantine we didn't venture out at all and with the lovely weather we had throughout May we were more than happy just playing in our garden but as time has gone on we've missed our visiting routine.
Pre-covid we spent a lot of time out visiting friends and family and even though Iris can't burst through the door demanding snacks like she used to we can take the dog for a walk to visit friends and family and she can play hide and seek in their gardens and I can have actual adults conversations.
We've not really explained Covid to Iris as she's only 2 and I am terrified i'm going to foster a germ phobia so we've just been saying that the places she loves are shut for a big clean and taking the dog with us really seems to help keep Iris outside people's houses as she understands that our dog doesn't usually go inside.
It also helps that Iris isn't much of a hugger, she's happier running and playing rather than having cuddles with family. This was something that worried me pre-Covid as I thought it maybe a sign she has Aspergers like me- I struggle with sensory overload and don't really like much physical contact- but in a pandemic not having a hugger has worked to our advantage. We've been lucky that Iris has coped so well with the disruption to her routine- I wish I could say the same for myself. I will be so glad when this is over.

Hang in there - it's been such a long time now hasn't it? Sounds like your little one is doing great - lovely photo :) #livingarrows
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you're dealing with this so well and the dog is definitely a great excuse - as well as a great reason to get out of the house too! x
ReplyDeleteI am getting to the stage when I am really wanting it to be over! Glad you have managed to get a tiny bit of normality back. Good idea on the dog. We have mentioned it to the boys as they are slightly older. But not in any depth.
