Review | Mutsy Evo Travel System

Mutsy? Not a brand you've heard of right? Prior to attending the Baby Show at Birmingham NEC in 2017 I hadn't heard of them either. I researched all the pram and pushchair brands that were going to be at the show, the price points and read any reviews I could find. We knew we wanted an all-in-one system, something with a carrycot, that could adapt to fit a car seat and then convert to a stroller. We wanted a product that would last for years but we didn't want to spend a fortune. Practicality and quality engineering were paramount, 'designer' brands were irrelevant. Prior to the show I'd narrowed it down to four options. The moment I saw the Mutsy Evo Stroller and Carrycot the others were blown right out the water.

We didn't know the sex of our baby so finding a neutral pram that wasn't boring was proving difficult. Then I saw the Mutsy in all it's stylish olive green luxury. The exterior fabric was a revelation. It's practical, shower proof yet entirely washable. It's durable and hard wearing whilst not making the pram look too rugged or cold. We have had so many people stop and ask us where are pram is from. It's caused quite the stir and we've not yet seen another Mutsy out and about.

Receiving the pram was an exciting moment and setting it up was so easy even Daddy could do it! The frame comes in one piece and you simply attach the wheels.

The bundle we ordered came with an attachable carry cot as the stroller is not suitable for use under 6 months. Some people may not want a separate carry cot but all the stroller style prams that were suited to under 6 months appeared rather uncomfortable compared to the deep padding of the Mutsy. The interior of the carrycot is super squishy and Iris loved to sleep in hers. An added bonus is that the carry cot is suitable for overnight sleeping making travelling a breeze.

The pram is car seat compatible which is great when you don't want to wake a sleeping newborn. To use either the car seat or the carry cot you will need adapters but these are super easy to attach-just remember to put them in the car with you! To use the stroller aspect you just need the frame and seat and the seat just slots in. Super easy.

The frame is easy to fold down and the wheels are easy to remove if need be. You can even fold the frame down with the stroller seat still attached, though we tend not to as it fits in the boot better when it's detached. The pram is easy to travel with, it's easy to fold and light enough to easily lift into the boot. You can remove the entirety of the stroller seat and machine wash it which is handy for those inevitable mishaps. It is reasonably easy to put back together as it can only go on one way so don't panic that you're doing it wrong. We've been using the pram daily for over ten months now and after a quick wash it comes out looking like new.

The matching Mutsy cosy toes is brilliant as it fits securely into the stroller and is plenty big enough for Iris to grow into it. I love that the covering front panel can be zipped off entirely so it doesn't annoyingly flap if Iris gets too warm. Both the stroller and carry cot hoods offer good sun protection and the Mutsy branded rain covers are superb quality though a little stiff to use to begin with. I was initially wary of the size and shape of the shopping basket but it has turned out to be very spacious and isn't as awkward as it looks.

In terms of comfort Iris has enjoyed being in both the carrycot and the seat and has napped peacefully in both. Everyone wants a pram that is easy to manoeuvre but we knew we needed a pram that could take a little off road action as well as tackling the town streets. The Mutsy Evo copes well on dog walks and over grass. It offers a smooth ride over uneven ground. It is easy to navigate around tight spaces as the turning circle required by this pram is very small. You can lock and unlock the front wheels depending on your preference and the type of adventuring you are doing.

In terms of value for money I think we did amazingly well. We paid around £600 in total (2017) and for that we got the Mutsy Evo stroller, carrycot, Maxi Cosi car seat, adapters, rain covers, cosy toes and matching change bag.  We managed to get everything we needed within a reasonable budget and we got the well designed, practical product we were looking for. I would recommend the Mutsy brand to anyone looking to purchase a pram as we've been outstandingly happy with our purchase.
